Electrical Safety

Electrical Safety

Harrison County Rural Electric Cooperative makes safety a top priority.  We are a safety accredited cooperative, educating our employees and consumers on many safety issues at all times.

If you’d like to make arrangements for our electric safety demonstration, please contact Jackie Androy at Harrison County Rural Electric Cooperative.  We offer this program throughout the year to schools, library groups, 4-H day camps, Boy & Girl Scout Groups, Emergency Rescue teams, and any other civic group interested.  Our presentation teaches safety habits assisting all ages in learning the importance of respecting electricity and using it wisely.

Listed below are some electrical safety tips for you to follow:

  • Keep small appliances away from water to avoid possible electrical shock.  Some of these items include hair dryers, curling irons, hot curlers, shavers, radios, toasters, and coffee makers.
  • Be sure to check electric cords frequently for damage that may cause fire or shock.
  • Cover wall outlets with safety plugs.
  • If you’re using power tools outside, be sure it’s dry in the area.
  • Unplug electric appliances during storms.
  • Don’t fly kites near power lines.
  • Don’t climb trees that are near power lines.
  • Never unplug from an outlet by pulling the cord, pull the plug itself.
  • If you see a downed power line, stay away.  Never touch it.

Pay close attention to safety precautions such as signs, markers, etc.  They’re there for your safety!

Our employees are required to attend safety meeting each month to assure that we are following safety rules and regulations to the best of our ability in every department of our Cooperative.
