On Wednesday morning, HCREC linemen Robert Wakehouse and Ryan Fouts traveled to Marshalltown, IA to assist with recovery from the aftermath of the Iowa Derecho with our friends at Consumers Energy Cooperative. Cooperation among cooperatives is one of the seven principles of which we operate and we pride ourselves in being ready and willing to help our neighboring cooperatives during times of need.

Like most of 2020, the derecho and the damage it caused were unprecedented and for the first time in cooperative history, there were four REC’s who were called to help an investor owned utility. HCREC sent two linemen to help Alliant Energy bring their customers back online and restore power to Perry, Iowa.

As a reminder to all, please move over and slow down when you see crews working on the roadways and do not go near downed power lines as they may still be energized.
