Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program

Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is designed to aid qualifying low-income Iowa households (homeowners and renters) in the payment of a portion of their residential heating costs for the winter heating season, to encourage regular utility payments, to promote energy awareness, and to encourage reduction of energy usage through energy efficiency and client education.

The 2023-2024 Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) has been established to help qualifying low-income Iowa homeowners and renters pay for a portion of their primary heating costs for the winter heating season. Assistance is based on household income, household size, type of fuel, and type of housing. Household Size (1) - Gross Annual Income Maximum of $29,160
Household Size (2) - Gross Annual Income Maximum of $39,440
Household Size (3) - Gross Annual Income Maximum of $49,720
Household Size (4) - Gross Annual Income Maximum of $60,000
Household Size (5) - Gross Annual Income Maximum of $70,280
Household Size (6) - Gross Annual Income Maximum of $80,560
Household Size (7) - Gross Annual Income Maximum of $90,840
Household Size (8) - Gross Annual Income Maximum of $101,120
* For households with more than eight members, add $10,280 for each additional member to calculate Income Maximum

Proof of Income: (for all household members aged 18 and over) Depending upon your household income type, income documentation from the past 30 days, the last 12 months, or last calendar year, whichever is easier or more beneficial for you.
