
Iowa Youth Tour
Each year Harrison County REC sends one member student to Washington D.C. to learn more about our government, the cooperative business model, as well as tour the Nation's capital. Applications are now being accepted! This year's trip will be taking place from June 14 - 20, 2026. All applications must be completed and submitted by Friday, March 3, 2026.



Harrison County Rural Electric Cooperative and other Iowa electric cooperatives sponsor the Iowa Rural Electric Cooperative Youth Tour to Washington, D.C. One student from “A Member Family” will be selected to join the tour, sponsored by Harrison County REC.
WHAT IS YOUTH TOUR? It’s an exciting, week-long, all-expense paid plus a $200 cash stipend trip to our nation’s Capitol in June. Other activities include:

Spend a day on Capitol Hill, meeting their Senators & Representatives

Visit museums, monuments, and memorials

Visit historical sights: such as Arlington National Cemetery, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Holocaust Museum, and more

Meet and build new friendships from Iowa and across the nation
Youth Tour participants can also apply for the national Youth Consulting Board (YCB). One student from Iowa will be selected to serve on the YCB. Their duties will include assisting at a national REC meeting and working with other YCB members from across the country to promote activities.

ELIGIBILITY:
To be eligible for the Iowa Youth Tour to Washington, D.C. applicants must be currently a freshman, sophomore, or junior in high school. Students must be attending one of the seven schools within Harrison County REC's service territory (or reside within those school districts if home schooled):
Denison Community Schools
Boyer Valley Community Schools
Woodbine Community Schools
Logan-Magnolia Community Schools
West Harrison Community Schools
Missouri Valley Community Schools
Tri-Center Community Schools

Judging and selection of applicants is the responsibility of Harrison County Rural Electric Cooperative.
