Iowa Youth Tour

Each year Harrison County REC sends one member student to Washington D.C. to learn more about our government, the cooperative business model, as well as tour the Nation's capital. Applications are now being accepted! All applications must be completed by Friday, March 15th 2024.

New for 2024 - The student selected to attend and represent HCREC will also receive an additional $200 spending stipend! 

Harrison County Rural Electric Cooperative and other Iowa electric cooperatives sponsor the Iowa Rural Electric Cooperative Youth Tour to Washington, D.C. One student from “A Member Family” will be selected to join the tour, sponsored by Harrison County REC.

WHAT IS YOUTH TOUR? It’s an exciting, week-long, all expense paid trip to our nation’s Capitol in June. Other activities include:

  • Spend a day on Capitol Hill, meeting their Senators & Representatives

  • Visit museums, monuments, and memorials

  • Visit historical sights: such as Arlington National Cemetery, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Holocaust Museum, and more

  • Meet and build new friendships from Iowa and across the nation

 

Youth Tour participants can also apply for the national Youth Consulting Board (YCB). One student from Iowa will be selected to serve on the YCB. Their duties will include assisting at a national REC meeting and working with other YCB members from across the country to promote activities.

ELIGIBILITY:

To be eligible for the Rural Electric Youth Tour to Washington, D.C. applicants must be currently a junior in high school. Their parents or legal guardians must be members and receiving cooperative services from Harrison County Rural Electric Cooperative.

 

JUDGING:

Judging and selection of applicants is the responsibility of Harrison County Rural Electric Cooperative.
