Harrison County REC is excited for the grand opening of Natural Fertilizer Services’ WINR Center, Waste into Nutrient Recovery, in Woodbine, Iowa. The event will be held at their new WINR site, 3173 220th St, Woodbine, IA 51579, on July 31st, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

The WINR Center converts organic byproducts from food processors and livestock operations into engineered natural fertilizer through controlled aerated composting. Nutrients taken from the soil to grow food and feed are recovered and returned, reducing landfill use, methane emissions, and permanent nutrient loss. “For Harrison County, this matters because fertilizer cost, nutrient efficiency, soil health, local jobs, agriculture, and rural infrastructure are all connected. WINR Centers create local nutrient recovery infrastructure that supports crop and livestock agriculture, keeps more value in rural communities, and returns stable organic nutrients to farmland.” States Natural Fertilizer Services Founder, Abe Sandquist.

This event also marks 20 years since founding Natural Fertilizer Services. Today, they manage over 60,000 acres and employ more than 30 people in Western Iowa. The WINR Center is real infrastructure improving soil health, creating local fertilizer supply, reducing chemical dependence, and strengthening rural economies.
